You can eat really well in Sanremo, from Ligurian dishes of sea and land to historic trattorias and charming bistros. Here are our favourite restaurants, the ones we recommend to our guests for every taste and occasion: from a traditional dinner to a special spot for an aperitivo, all the way to fresh fish with a view of the port. We always recommend booking, especially at weekends and in high season.

La Pignese — history and Ligurian cuisine

One of Sanremo's best-loved historic spots, in Piazza Sardi a step from the old port, La Pignese is the place for traditional local cooking. An elegant, welcoming setting, excellent fresh fish and a good wine list of Ligurian and Italian labels. A great choice if you're after authentic local flavours in a refined atmosphere.

Ipazia – Cibi e Libri — true local cooking

A small, intimate osteria set in a former bookshop, Ipazia – Cibi e Libri serves the traditional cooking of western Liguria, with a menu that changes daily depending on what's at the market. Here you'll find classics such as brandacujun, cappon magro and homemade pasta, paired with carefully chosen wines. A much-loved little gem: booking is advisable.

By the Glass — from aperitivo to after-dinner

A special, welcoming spot near the port, By the Glass is a wine bar and restaurant that works at any point in the evening: aperitivo, dinner or a late drink. Owner Gabriele, a true wine connoisseur, pairs the right label with fresh local dishes and homemade pasta. An intimate atmosphere and an excellent wine selection make it a good pick for a special evening.

Marzio Bistrot — charm in the old-town alleys

Tucked away in Via Gaudio, in one of the most picturesque alleys of the old town, Marzio Bistrot is a small place with a warm, refined atmosphere. The young, wine-loving owner serves Ligurian cooking with fresh ingredients and a few creative touches: red prawn tartare, oysters, trofie al pesto and delicious desserts, alongside a well-chosen wine list. Intimate and welcoming, it's lovely for a special dinner.

Il Dehor del Marinaio — fish with a port view

Overlooking the old port, Il Dehor del Marinaio is the place for a fish dinner looking out over the boats, especially at sunset. Consistently fresh fish, mixed seafood starters, linguine with raw fish and well-made risottos, in a simple, welcoming seaside setting. Friendly staff and good value: just the thing if you want the sea on your plate as well as in view.
